10 Common Coolroom Problems and How To Solve Them

If you have a cool room installed, no doubt, you’ll be faced with an issue now and again. To give you a few solutions, here are some of the most common coolroom problems and how to solve them.

1. Temperature Fluctuations

Problem:

The temperature inside your coolroom is either too cold or not cold enough.

Solutions:

  • Make sure the thermostat is set correctly and is working.
  • Defrost the unit cooler and associated parts to ensure there’s no frost built up.
  • Make sure that the cool room door can close tightly and there’s no gap.
  • Ensure that the compressor is operating correctly.
  • Clean any filters to ensure there’s no dust buildup.
  • Make sure that the refrigerant levels are full.

2. Excessive Condensation

Problem:

You notice a build of moisture inside the unit leading to wet floors and increased humidity.

Solutions:

  • Make sure that there are no leaks in your cool room panels where cold air can escape.
  • Replace the door seal if it’s become worn or cracked.
  • Consider putting in a dehumidifier to control excessive humidity.

3. Equipment Malfunction

Problem:

Your compressor is not working or the condenser fan stops running.

Solutions:

  • Make sure that there’s power going to the unit.
  • Check the motors to see whether they need to be repaired or replaced.
  • Make sure that the thermostat is working correctly.
  • Ensure that there are no obstructions anywhere near the fan.

4. Frost Build-Up

Problem:

You notice a build-up of frost around the evaporator coil which can result in damage and inefficiencies.

Solutions:

  • Make sure your auto-defrost is working correctly.
  • Check the thermostat for accuracy.
  • Replace the refrigerant if the level is low.

5. High Energy Consumption

Problem:

If you notice that your energy consumption has risen sharply, it could mean that your compressor is working too hard, either because of leaks or a faulty thermostat.

Solutions:

  • Check the efficiency and accuracy of your thermostat and replace it if necessary.
  • Make sure there are no leaks where cold air can escape.
  • Limit the number of times that the coolroom door is being opened.
  • Get your compressor serviced so that it works more efficiently.

6. Door Not Sealing

Problem:

If your cool room doors are not sealing the way that they should this could result in temperature fluctuations, excessive energy usage and product spoilage.

Solutions:

  • Check the door gaskets and seals and replace them if they’re faulty or damaged.
  • Make sure that the door latch is engaging as it should.
  • Monitor your staff to ensure that they’re closing the door fully every time.

7. The Thermostat Is Faulty

Problem:

If you notice constant temperature fluctuations or your cool room doesn’t stay at the right temperature, then it’s likely that your thermostat is faulty.

Solutions:

  • Test the accuracy of the thermostat.
  • Replace the thermostat if necessary.

8. Product Spoilage

Problem:

If you’re finding that products are spoiling in your coolroom, it’s likely that the temperature is not cold enough and that your refrigerant levels may be depleted.

Solutions:

  • Check the thermostat to make sure that it’s not faulty.
  • Make sure that there are no leaks.
  • Check the refrigerant levels and top up if the levels are low.
  • You might want to have the unit serviced and the refrigerant completely replaced.

9. Unusual Noises Coming From The Coolroom

Problem:

Your coolroom is emitting strange noises that you’ve never heard before. These could be caused by equipment malfunctions.

Solutions:

  • Check the fans to make sure they’re working correctly.
  • Make sure that filters are clean and not blocked.
  • Have your compressor serviced to ensure it’s functioning as it should.

10. Electrical Issues

Problem:

The sensors and electronic controls are not functioning correctly which is resulting in temperature fluctuations and high humidity levels.

Solutions:

  • With anything of an electrical nature, it’s best to call an electrician to come and have a look at the electrical components such as the sensors and controls to determine whether they need to be replaced or repaired.
